So You Want to Be a Marketing Manager?

So, you have decided that you want to step into the exciting, dynamic and lucrative world of digital marketing. You should brace yourself, then, for it's a world of work that is challenging and intense – but one that can also be very rewarding and interesting.

The digital marketing environment is a constantly shifting landscape that will require you to be dedicated and diligent to keep up with the changes as they occur. Or, even better, become able to predict the hot new trends before they become prevalent, allowing you to get ahead of the curve and become an industry leader whom others will look to for advice and inspiration.

Due to the nature of the field, employers are looking for the right candidates who are dedicated to the career and are avoiding any who seem that they are just looking for another filler job.

So, your best bet for showing your dedication to the industry is with a dedicated degree in digital marketing - right? However, there are a lot of courses out there, so please allow us to recommend a few of the best, which will leave you fully prepared to enter the exciting world of digital marketing.

Bachelor Degrees

The great thing about marketing degrees is that they are normally taken as a major subject within a business or commerce degree program. Marketing is an interesting subject to study and the rest of the course will give you a good grounding in all aspects of business.

Your first year will normally be non-specialised, after which you'll be asked to pick a major. If you already have a diploma of marketing, you can normally jump straight into the second year. Many of the degrees are studied online, so you can work at pretty much your own pace and fit study in around your present workload.

Postgraduate Marketing Courses

If you are a serious professional who wishes to take their marketing career even further, with a more expansive knowledge of the history, trends and techniques of the field, then you may want to take the plunge and enrol on a Master of Marketing program.

These courses are usually suited to bachelors’ graduates who have already accrued some experience in the field and want to take things a step further. People such as marketing project leaders, team managers and consultants can benefit from post-graduate study to further drive their marketing successes, as well as grow their businesses and product lines.

Masters’ degrees can also be studied for online, meaning that there is no need to take time out of your career in order to study for them. Be prepared for a lot of work and dedication however as you will need to devote a not too insignificant amount of your free time to completing the modules.

On the flipside though, you will go from being simply knowledgeable in marketing to becoming an expert in topics such as management, market research, data analysis, customer service, digital marketing and international marketing.

There you have some of our ideas for getting into the world of digital marketing here in Australia. Are you looking to take the plunge into this exciting world, or maybe you are already here and looking to expand your knowledge and experience with a post-grad program?

Either way, please let us know.
